COMMON PROBLEMS WITH A CONDO HEATING SYSTEM

If you live in a condo, you might not have to think about your heating systems all that often. Large condo buildings in Toronto tend to have centralized heating units that distribute heat to the whole building. Your only role might be monthly maintenance fees. That the heating in your condo is a common element, however, doesn’t mean that nothing can go wrong with it. If you aren’t getting the heating you need and are thinking of letting your building caretaker know they need to call for HVAC repair services during a Toronto winter, here are just a few tips from us at AAA Technical Services about what might be going wrong:

If you live in a condo, you might not have to think about your heating systems all that often. Large condo buildings in Toronto tend to have centralized heating units that distribute heat to the whole building. Your only role might be monthly maintenance fees. That the heating in your condo is a common element, however, doesn’t mean that nothing can go wrong with it. If you aren’t getting the heating you need and are thinking of letting your building caretaker know they need to call for HVAC repair services during a Toronto winter, here are just a few tips from us at AAA Technical Services about what might be going wrong:

Central system has not been changed for the season

In larger buildings with centralized heating units, there is typically a large heat pump or boiler that creates all the heat that’s distributed throughout the building. To heat a larger building takes a lot of hot water. That’s why the system is usually kept running for the entire season and only changed from hot to cold or the reverse twice a year. If it’s early in the season and you can’t get hot air, it might just be that the system hasn’t been turned on yet.

Filter is clogged or damaged

Each unit of centralized heating systems usually has its own heating controls and air filter. If your filter becomes clogged or otherwise damaged, the air might be having trouble getting into your unit. Before you call an HVAC repair specialist, however, check your contract to see if the unit heating system is a common element of your Toronto condo building or not. If it is, your building supervisor should take care of it.

Heating controls are malfunctioning

Your heating controls have two tasks: to accurately read the temperature in your unit and control how much hot air is blown in from the duct system. If your thermostat isn’t giving you accurate readings or isn’t blowing in the right amount of air, it means that something is wrong. As with your filter system, check to see if the thermostat is a common element so you know who to contact to get it fixed.

Problem with the central unit

Of course, if nothing’s wrong with your filter, ducts, or heating controls, there’s probably a problem with the central heating unit. In that case you should contact your building supervisor and tell him or her the building needs HVAC repair services and to call AAA Technical Services in Toronto. We’re experts in HVAC repair and can get any job done quickly and at a fair price.
